Nami – Section of Olive Root and Corten Steel

Nami, which means “wave” in Japanese, is a piece that captures the silent movement of a material that has survived.

Made from a century-old olive root from Calabria, scorched by fire and believed lost, it was recovered, turned into planks by the Mobile Sawmill of Val di Cecina, and finally reimagined as a wall piece.

The dark, marked wood retains deep traces of heat and time: broken grain patterns, folds, and knots sculpted by flame. Its form ripples like a wave that has passed through earth and fire.

Containing this energy is a corten steel frame—textured and oxidized—that doesn’t enclose but rather accompanies the piece, in a balance between strength and fragility.

Nami is a suspended memory, a visual testimony of transformation.
A petrified wave, telling the story of the rebirth of what once seemed lost.

Each piece is unique, the result of an artisanal process that enhances the natural beauty of wood and the craftsmanship of Nades. Irregular shapes, distinctive grain patterns, and natural imperfections are not flaws, but marks of authenticity and uniqueness in every creation.

This item is sold exactly as it appears, with no possibility of reproduction or customization. Its unique features stem from the original shape of the trunk and the artisan’s handwork. By purchasing this piece, you choose to bring home an exclusive furnishing element that tells a story and adds a touch of authenticity to your space.

Choosing a handcrafted product means appreciating the beauty of natural imperfection and the value of an object made with passion and mastery. Each piece is a tangible testament to the art and tradition of Italian craftsmanship.

The boards used in our products come from trees that have fallen naturally, died of old age, or been removed only when necessary for agronomic or safety reasons. We source the wood from a sawmill in Castelnuovo Val di Cecina, where Nades is also based. No living trees are cut down to produce furniture: we follow the rhythm of nature, respecting its cycles and transforming what would otherwise decay into something new and enduring.

Thus, each piece is a form of rebirth; we give a second life to ancient woods, rich in history and beauty, working them with artisanal care to preserve the traces of time, the splits, the grain patterns, and the knots that tell of decades—sometimes centuries—of silent life under the Tuscan sky.

Purchasing one of these creations means bringing home an authentic fragment of nature, transformed with respect and passion.
